All evacuation orders have been lifted in Paradise more than a month after a devastating wildfire that wiped out the Northern California town. The fire that broke out Nov. 8 killed at least 86 people and destroyed 14,000 homes in Paradise and nearby communities in the Sierra Nevada foothills. This will be the first time many residents get to see their property since fleeing the firestorm.

A report on firefighter injuries in a deadly Northern California wildfire details the harrowing conditions they faced and a few close calls with death. The report released Thursday by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said the Camp Fire overtook three firefighters working to stop the blaze Nov. 8. It says two inmate firefighters were burned when they tried to escape the flames and ran into barbed-wire fences. A fire captain also was burned.

Authorities in Northern California say the death toll from a destructive wildfire has decimated the town of Paradise has climbed from 85 to 86. The Butte County Sheriff's office said Tuesday that Larry Smith of Paradise was burned while trying to put out flames that had surrounded his car. Smith died of his injuries after Thanksgiving, nearly three weeks after the fire started Nov. 8.
